The VIU Financial Aid & Awards Office is committed to supporting students in their search for financial assistance, both in the form of loans, grants and awards, and in helping students to make the best use of these resources. Financial Aid & Awards staff assist and support students throughout their academic pursuits. 

The Financial Aid & Awards Office works closely with the VIU Faculties and the Student Services branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education to foster and support student access to financial assistance.

The Library is known as a leader for consistently identifying, leveraging, and advancing strategic local, regional, national, and international collaborations, for both institutional and collective benefit.

Peer-Supported Learning (PSL) offers free, regularly scheduled, informal study sessions led by a senior student who has been successful in selected courses. At its core the PSL program helps students integrate what to learn with how to learn and it has been successfully implemented around the world as an effective study program.

Qualified and friendly faculty tutors are available for one-to-one consultations to provide assistance with any aspect of your writing, such as understanding the assignment, developing your thesis, structuring your essay, using and citing sources, grammar problems.

Note: we don’t proofread your essay. That’s your job! We also run workshops on key aspects of the writing process.  We are open for fall and spring semesters, and for the summer intersessions. This is a free VIU service.

One piece of advice would be to try anything and everything that interests you. VIU has so many thing to offer, so take a chance and join a club, try intramurals, or apply for a leadership position. Advisors are available to answer your questions or steer you in the right direction when questions arise.

What Are Prerequisites and Co-requisites?

Prerequisites (or pre-requisites), are specific requirements (usually another course or courses) that you have to complete before you begin another course. Co-requisites are similar, except that they may be taken at the same time.

Check the prerequisites of a course before registering. If you do not have the prerequisite, you may be de-registered at a time when it may be too late to register for something else.
