Your online student record is the central place for you to manage your official business with the University. Most registration services are available in your online student record. You can add or drop courses, update your address or email, see your grades, pay your fees and much more!

How Do I Know When I Can Register?

Generally, your registration appointment will be sometime in May between the hours of 8 am and 3:30 pm.

Helpful Hints

Your registration appointment is valid from the assigned date until the end of the first week of the semester.

Note that the web registration system is closed for daily maintenance from 11:30 pm until 1:30 am, Monday to Friday, but will be available at all other times.
What is Web Registration? January 23, 2023 - 10:45am

Web Registration is available through your Online Student Record. It allows you to pre-select the courses and sections you want and save them before your registration appointment. It is also the place that you will register for your courses once your registration appointment time arrives. After you have registered for a semester, you can continue to use Web Registration to add or drop courses.

Using Web Registration:

  • You can search for specific courses or types of courses to help you build your timetable.
  • Once Registration has begun you can see if there are open seats or how many people are on the waitlist when you search for courses.
  • You can check your saved timetable any time before your registration appointment to see how many seats are left in the classes you chose.
  • You can make changes to your saved timetables - just make sure to Save Your Plan every time you make a change.

Waitlists - What to do after the semester starts September 3, 2021 - 3:49pm

If you are on a waitlist and a seat becomes available to you prior to the first day of the semester, you will automatically be registered in the class. 

The waitlist procedure changes during the first six* days of the semester.

About the Volunteer Tutor Program

Free tutoring is offered as a support to any VIU student in any subject, including adult upgrading courses, trades and certificate programs, and university courses. The focus is usually academic, but sometimes students request tutors to help them “stay on track” or “talk things over with.” Tutoring is not the primary form of course delivery. The ultimate goal of tutoring is to help students become independent, efficient learners.
